Knowledge of an innate subjective perspective is what I attempt to reveal to the viewer of my work. We have been programmed to digest, wired to construct. The “progressivist” hallmark of human creation has blinded us from origin, and in turn, has bound us to the finality of a result. When we look at something we are predisposed to experience the entity, the object, as the result of a process. We disregard origin by limiting our depth of experience to the sensorial (in this case visual) interpretation of a final result.
In other words, when one looks at an object, say a table, we see a table, we don’t stop and think about the connotation of the given object, we simply experience it in its final form. What my art attempts is to evoke the process of distinguishing temporal transience, to provoke a change in the paradigm of sensuous experience.
The medium that I utilize is primarily processed wood and bark. In my sculptures and paintings I try to expose the subjective perspective of the viewer, and then ask them to relinquish it, by demonstrating the processed object as it mingles with its origin.
The irony of the work however is inescapable. The fact that I attempt to return process to origin by processing something even further is intentionally humorous. It can be seen as an analogous critique of many of the modern- day marketing schemes popularizing the environmental benefits of a product, while intending only an increase in production and profit.
