Andres 2011

My work endeavors to represent the aesthetic of personal reminiscence. I recall moments from the life’s landscape and portray them in paintings, in which the elements of time and light are emphasized expressionistically. The process of the art creation is significant to the theme, given that it is spontaneous, just as the moment experienced. There is a connection between mind perception of the external world and its representation in material appearance, making memory essential for the art.

I paint nature in the form, shape and color as I remember and feel it. However, this occurs in a certain time and place, not in a general view. The work style includes deformation, primitivism, and fantasy, so the audience’s view of my paintings is the effect of nature on my subjective emotions.

The technique I use depend on the mood, varying thick and harsh brush strokes and light soft rubs. Colors have the same effect - bright, dark or opaque, defining the sentiment. This mode emerges in an abstract manner distorting formal elements and arranging them in a mix of colors.

Amongst the settings I paint, there are included rivers, cascades, landforms, mountains, trees, plants and other natural forms. These places and objects symbolize the emotions triggered in me. This psychological sensation is reflected in the final physical form of the painting.
