Andres 2009

Linda Cassatt was my main inspiration besides nature. It was easy for me to relate my art to nature, since I’m an admirer. I enjoy the landscapes when I go to a new place, and even more when I go back home to Colombia for vacation. When I read about Cassatt, over the summer, I took many pictures and saw many skies juxtaposed with water and land. Again when I traveled around Europe, I had a very clear memory of the most unique and outstanding views.

I began a series of charcoal drawings which led to more complex and abstract paintings. Once I started the charcoal drawings, and when I continued my paintings, they became more abstract and relied less on nature.

Throughout the year my paintings slowly started evolving. My work started to become more abstract as the months passed. From simple sunsets, then to abstract paintings and exploring different tones of colors in strips, importantly, both vertically and horizontally. I had found my own style, and found a way which was very different to Cassatt.
